Romance languages (from Latin romanus - Romanus) a group of related languages of the Indo-European family that developed from Latin language includes Spanish Portuguese Catalan Galician French Oxitan Italian Sardinian Retoromanian; Romanian Moldovan and also Dalmatian which disappeared in the 19th century. The Romance languages emerged in the process of Romanization of vast territories in the south southwest and centre of Western Europe from the 3rd century B.C. to the 2nd century A.D. The Romans'' Latin language having interacted with local indigenous languages served as a source of education for future Romance languages. Latin as the victorious language became the main language for all Romance languages. Historically closely related to Latin the Romance languages over the centuries have become very different from Latin.
