The three books written by Elisabeth Sanxay Holding prior to her success as a mystery writer are described as romance novels. By today’s standards they are anything but romantic A better description would be a woman’s commentary on the limited choices of women in a time where they were viewed as an accessory or less than in society. Yet society demanded complete stoicism. The three stories of Rasaleen Minnie and Angelica are a window into three different walks of life and yet the struggle often desperation to survive is eye opening. You can’t help but be moved when you consider a woman Elisabeth better off than most believed capturing the limited options of women in the 1920’s was worthy. Very few people mention these three lives while the books centered around a male detective have much praise. By republishing these books I hope to give recognition to all women of this time.
