Running in Heels: Women and Politics in Saint Lucia (1961–2016) is the first publication of its kind to highlight the many political achievements and myriad challenges that women have faced in the political arena in Saint Lucia. It provides a small but significant panorama of the lives of twenty-seven women from diverse backgrounds and political capacities who have populated the political landscape of Saint Lucia through its elective and appointive processes. The book is a kaleidoscope of information; it interweaves stories and historical accounts with important data statistics and analysis of the political terrain of Saint Lucia for the last fifty-five years. It does so primarily from the perspective of the women who ran for office who sat in the senate and/or cabinet and illustrates how gendered dynamics has an impact on their successes or setbacks. Ultimately Running in Heels is a celebration of women’s contribution to the political development of Saint Lucia.
