Salivary Glands

Diabetes mellitus is related to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as damage to different tissues and organ systems. In contrast antioxidants such as NAC can be used to modulate and prevent these aggressions. However in autoimmune hyperglycemic conditions NAC appears to potentiate the damage caused by diabetes. Thus combination with other therapies is necessary and may allow the antioxidant action of NAC together with the blocking of the harmful effects of diabetes. In addition physical exercise can also improve the body's antioxidant defense leading to cellular homeostasis. Thus this book will demonstrate the effects of NAC combined with antibody therapy and physical exercise in order to recover salivary organs in experimental hyperglycemic conditions.
