About The Book

The present book is an attempt to analyze social and cultural factors such as rural-urban residence castes/class/ tribe and religion that go along sanitation behaviour among the people at personal household and community levels one may use two perspectives; namely cultural and structural. As a cultural phenomenon sanitation can be conceived at three interrelated levels of people’s life in society; namely personalfamily/ household and community/ public. At personal level an individual’s sanitary habits and practices like regular and appropriate cleaning of bowels proper urinating bathing washing of clothes teeth-cleaning paring of nails etc. affect the state of his/ her living and health immediately and as well of those who come in contact with him/ her. At family or household level the disposal practices of human and animal waste garbage and drainage and animal keeping practices which constitute the family culture of sanitation affect the living and health of the whole family and then affects other families and individuals in its vicinity e.g. swine flu has frequently erupted from domestic or farm poultries.
