Thyroid disorders are the second most common endocrine disorders in women during pregnancy. Not only overt but subclinical thyroid dysfunction also has adverse effects on maternal and fetal outcome. There is an intimate relationship between maternal and fetal thyroid function and drugs that affect the maternal thyroid function also affect the fetal gland. Thyroid auto antibodies have been associated with increased early pregnancy wastage. Thyroid disease can be challenging to diagnose during pregnancy because many of its symptoms are common in pregnancy. This work aims at screening of hypothyroidism in pregnancy and evaluating its effect on maternal and fetal outcome.
