Nick Swift a single father and television journalist is headed to Hawaii to investigate a story on funding fraud allegedly committed by a respected astrophysicist Professor James Charleston. He brings his daughter Annabelle along hoping to get in some father-daughter time. When his trip is interrupted by a volcanic eruption that destroys a multibillion-dollar telescope Nick knows that this will not be an ordinary trip. He goes out to help one of Professor Charleston's team members a man trapped in a car-who asks the reporter to deliver a hard drive to the professor in Iceland.
