This is the story of the son of a sharecropping lay minister who at age 14 walks off the Texas cotton field his family is working on and tells his brother he is never picking cotton again. For the next 18 months he travels halfway across the country and up the Pacific Coast honing his skills as a gambler. At the end of that time he returns to his family driving a new Buick Roadster with $18000 in his pocket. The money bank rolls his bootlegging enterprise.
