About The Book

This issue of Semeia was conceived as an opportunity to conjoin theoretical reflections on the meanings of text and textuality with responses from textual critics who regularly work with sacred textual traditions in western culture. The theoretical articles challenge the assumptions of modernist theories of interpretation and liberal romanticist hermeneutics from diverse perspectives of feminist criticism deconstructionist theories of discourse and post-Holocaust studies. They are also a critique of each other as are the critical responses from the textual critics. Semeia is an experimental journal devoted to the exploration of new and emergent areas and methods of biblical criticism.
