Sense of Belonging and Hybrid Identity: Example of Turkish Community

People are living in more multicultural society today. Many homogeneous societies have transformed into multicultural communities in which people from different cultural backgrounds and ethnicities live together Thanks to the globalisation and new communication tools; people can easily communicate each other and they may affect each other in various ways. In contemporary societies it makes sense to think of people as individuals. We have individual bodies minds aims and dreams. But in very meaningful ways being human is not being an individual anymore. It is about belonging to a particular group of people. “Who we are” is a very simple question but it is defined by the social networks and communities to which we belong. This new sense of belonging has created new kind of identities which is hybrid identities.
