A sequence stratigraphic framework for a growth-faulted deltaic deposit through the Agbada Formation encountered within the field of study was constructed using 3-D Seismic well logs and biostratigraphic data.Correlation of key chronostratigraphic horizons within the analysed wells were based on biostratigraphic/biofacies biozones data as well as well log interpretation of flooding surfaces and unconformities bounding large-scale successions in the onshore area and the identification of equivalent reflection packages within the 2-D seismic data set. Analysis from foraminiferal biostratigraphy yielded excessively abundant taxa coupled with analysis undertaken from all the well log data in these wells and therefore makes identification and correlation of key surfaces possible.Without the application of sequence stratigraphy to clastic (and/or carbonate) reservoirs the interpretation of seismic data and well motifs could be flawed. In the light of the foregoing the use of sequence stratigraphic framework in conjunction with seismic data interpretation is a more beneficial and cost-effective technique in petroleum exploration than the use of any one of the techniques in isolation.
