Servant leadership in NPOs as a model for success?

In the academic debate on leadership the focus is increasingly on the relationship between leaders and those they lead. In addition to this transformational leadership approach transactional leadership elements are also required. Leadership is becoming increasingly important in the NPO sector and poses a particular challenge due to the special framework conditions. Servant leadership appears to be a potentially suitable leadership approach for NPOs.Servant leadership describes leadership behavior that is oriented towards the needs and interests of employees. Managers are characterized by empathy and appreciation. The focus is placed on the organization alongside the employees and managers try to empower their employees to organize themselves and develop.
