Rajam Krishnan Was Born In The Tiruchirapalli District Of Musiri. She Had Limited Formal Schooling And Appears To Have Been Mostly Self-Taught. In Her Twenties She Began Publishing. She Is Noted For Creating Well-Researched Sociological Novels About People Who Are Rarely Featured In Modern Tamil Literature Such As Poor Farmers Salt Pan Workers Small-Time Criminals Forest Dacoits Under-Trial Inmates And Female Labourers. She Has Authored Over 80 Books. She Has Written Forty Books Twenty Plays Two Biographies And Several Short Stories. She Was A Translator Of Literature From Malayalam To Tamil In Addition To Her Own Writing. Susie J Tharu And K Lalita Credit Krishnan With Having Launched A New Trend In Tamil Literature In Their Anthology Of Women'S Writing In India In The 19Th And 20Th Centuries Referring To The Significant Research Krishnan Conducted In Examining Societal Situations As Backdrop For Her Writing. For Her Novel Verukku Neer She Received The Tamil Sahitya Akademi Award In 1973. Her Works Were Nationalised By The Tamil Nadu Government In 2009 For A Compensation Of Rs. 300000. It Was An Unusual Incident Because In Tamil Nadu Only The Works Of Deceased Writers Are Normally Nationalised.
