The sexuality of the elderly is a subject that is rarely discussed in primary care particularly in rural and semi-rural areas due to societal and religious taboos. The aim of this study was to gather information on the experiences and expectations of senior citizens regarding the discussion of their sexual health with their doctor. We therefore assessed the experiences and expectations of a population of elderly subjects undergoing primary care regarding the discussion of sexuality with their doctor. The study involved 34 patients with an average age of 70 and a predominance of males (sex ratio M/F = 1.12). 85% of subjects were open to the idea of sexuality and 57% expressed sexual satisfaction. 93% felt no discomfort when discussing this subject. 52% consider the GP to be the preferred contact for sexual complaints. The main obstacles to talking about sexuality were an underdeveloped relationship with the doctor (32%) and the fear of being misunderstood (20%). It would therefore be useful to raise doctors' awareness of seniors' sexuality in order to improve the quality of life and care for this population.
