Black women and girls are underrepresented in the STEM fields. In 2019 only 28% of the STEM workforce was female and only 3% of that workforce was black. This digital skill gap has several negative consequences both for black women and girls themselves and for society. Black women and girls are less likely to have access to high-quality education in STEM fields and are more likely to face discrimination and harassment in the workplace.
