The Glass Palace (Hindi) is a historical novel written by Amitav Ghosh. The story set about a century after the downfall of the Konbaung Dynasty in Mandalay. Various incidents in the novel give readers a picture of the changing social conditions from the Second World War to modern times. The author begins the novel with the story of Rajkumar a teenage boy who worked at a food -stall run by Ma Cho in the city of Mandalay. Rajkumar worked near the Glass Palace where King Thibaw resided with his wife daughters and the assistants of the family. Rajkumar happens to see Dolly who was one of the attendants of the princesses and he instantly falls in love with her. But various social conditions and the Rajkumar''s career somehow prevented his love from being expressed. Glass Palace The (Hindi) is a novel that portrays the economic landscape of Burma and India and also touches upon various issues like the social changes brought about by modernity. The Glass Palace (Hindi) was published in 2012 by Penguin India and is available in paperback format. This is a Hindi translation of the original novel by Kannan Jhingan.
