In this book professor and linguist Gibran Massoud tells the story of his life in a novelist style. He does not consider the aspects of time and space but rather focuses on periods and moments he experienced during his long and prosperous life. He embodies the character of Mazen the protagonist of his story. He is a boy who lived under the French mandate and witnessed the insurrection; he is a young man who witnessed patriotic and national upsurges; he is a professor under whose wing students graduated and became the men of tomorrow; he is a man who dedicated his life to his passion for language and to enriching the Arabic repertoire with books and research about its knowledges; finally he is an old man reflecting upon life and beaten by the fact that his country is sinking before his eyes.
