<p><em>Silas Marner</em> by <strong>George Eliot</strong> tells the story of a poor reclusive weaver named Silas Marner who lives in the rural village of Raveloe. Once a trusted member of a religious community he was falsely accused of theft and betrayed by his best friend causing him to lose faith in people and God. He moves to Raveloe where he lives in isolation finding comfort only in the gold coins he earns from weaving.</p><p>One night his gold is stolen plunging him into despair. Soon after a little orphaned girl named <strong>Eppie</strong> wanders into his cottage and Silas decides to raise her. Through his love for Eppie he rediscovers joy faith and connection with others. Years later the truth about his stolen gold and Eppie's parentage comes out but Eppie chooses to stay with Silas showing that love and kindness bring greater wealth than gold.</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p>
