SDF is a non-invasive treatment that takes less time in the chair and is useful for individuals who are unwilling to cooperate. This treatment does not require the use of local anesthetic. When compared to other fluoride solutions SDF penetrates deeper into the tooth. SDF contains fluoride which induces remineralization and the development of fluorapatite crystals making tooth structure more caries-resistant silver which has antibacterial properties fluoride which has remineralization properties and ammonia which acts as a stabilizer.
