Within the galaxy's ten star systems corporations bent on profit control the course of civilizations and nothing is more profitable than the manufacture of life crystals. Though not at the level of sophistication sought by Geminians seeking Phoenos the Solar Corporation has developed the technology of bioduogenetics.
