The author Major A.I.R. Glasfurd of the Indian Army was sent to study the battlefields of the Russo-Japanese War in southern Manchuria ( today's northern China) soon after the war ended. Glasfurd a gifted military artist executed a number of sketches of the battlefields accompanied by photographs and a short text - which give a good idea of the terrain of the 1904-05 war which saw the rise of Japan to great power status and a corresponding decline in the status of pre-Great War Tsarist Russia. As such this book will prove of considerable interest to students of that conflict.
