Social construction of Newar women of Kirtipur

The social construction of Newar women highlights the narratives of Newar women one of the ethnic groups of Nepal centralized in the capital city. Newars are scattered all over the country but their primary roots relate to Kathmandu valley. Though for outsiders all Newars are predefined as the same it has diversity within based on the caste hierarchy gender geography religion and language itself. So this book highlights one of the oldest and historically rich Newar towns Kirtipur and its women. This book primarily answers what makes a Newar woman? How their collective identity defines them and also emphasizes their significant role in family and community.
