SOCIETY OBITUARIES

This work aimed to unveil the social relations around criminality in Curitiba the capital city of Paraná during the years 1894 to 1908. To do so we had as a source the official reports written by the police chiefs. Furthermore we questioned what would then be the scope of an official source for a study of the social. The period is recognized as being endowed with a feeling of crisis given the restructuring of society from Monarchy to Republic as well as the transition from slave labor to wage-earning. In this way we tried to understand how relations were accommodated in this period of crisis regarding criminality thinking of these relations not only as an expression of contradictions and ruptures but also as continuities and as constitutive elements of the social structure.
