This study was conducted to assess the socioeconomic status and gender role of cereal crop production in two VDCs of Arghakhachi district. A pre-tested semi-structured questionnaires were used to collect the information from the respondents. Two VDCs were selected purposively and 60 HHs (30 from each VDC) were selected randomly for the survey. Cereal crop production has great contribution in HH income and livelihood upliftment. The study area was male dominated. Agriculture was the major occupation in the study area. The average area under rice (7.46 ropani) was more followed by wheat (4.58 ropani) and maize (4.35 ropani) in the study area. Hybrid variety of rice HYV of maize and local variety of wheat was most popular. Seed was higher for wheat (10.73 kg) followed by rice (8.75 kg) and maize (6.5 kg).Total production of rice was higher than maize and wheat.The major problems in the study area were lack of technical assistance lack of irrigation facilities and low quality seed.
