Sociological aspects of microfinance

This book seeks to study the sociological aspects of microfinance with special reference to social stratification of gender and class. Chapter 1 aims to lay the foundation of the topic by explaining all elements of the study in brief. For the purpose of this study the introduction covers an introduction to Microfinance worldwide and the prime-mover of the study.Chapter 2 explains aspects of social stratification of gender and class for understanding MFIs. It looks into gender-based inequality in the global context and the role of MFIs in acting as a catalyst of women empowerment the practice of devalorizing women’s work and the bias on the basis of class and social status in the global context today and the role of microfinance as a poverty alleviation tool. Chapter 3 explains the recent global /country experiences of MFIs.
