Inspiration for things historical came from curiosity about a missing father his maternal grandmother's stories multiple annual trips to the southern Arkansas Ouachita Mountains homestead of his ancestors and extended family but a love of writing as well. </span></p><p><br></p><p><span style=background-color: rgba(0 0 0 0); color: rgba(0 0 0 1)>     Back in 1967 an Arkansas State College history professor added to that inspiration. He wrote:</span></p><p><span style=background-color: rgba(0 0 0 0); color: rgba(0 0 0 1)>     I spend so much time pushing the average student that the outstanding scholar may feel that his rewarding efforts have gone unnoticed.
