Song of Desolation: 1 (Ballads of Mae)

Mae White was just an ordinary college sophomore until two years ago when everything changed after a power she never knew she possessed forced her into a life of pain and isolation. Just as Mae begins to get her life back on track shes kidnapped off the streets of Chicago. Her kidnapper claims to be a Guardian: a race of warriors created by the gods who have taken over as protectors of the supernatural world. If that wasnt strange enough another Guardian walks in during the interrogation and claims she is his mate. The Guardians tell Mae what she already knows: shes a danger to those around her. Normally anyone else in her situation would be terminated. But Mae has been offered an olive branch: if she helps them break the curse that hangs over the Guardian race they will help her find a way to control her power so she can have a normal life. Can Mae trust these Guardians enough to break down the walls she has built around her? Will she be able to break their curse? And does she really want to put a name to the monster hiding beneath her skin?
