The poem Song on a May Morning is a selection from Milton's volume of 1645 Poems which also contains some of his most well-known works including as Lycidas and Comus. This specific poetry honours the youthfulness innocence and mirth that are typically connected to the arrival of spring as well as the gift of new life and colour that the month of May bestows upon us. In the poem's first two lines the image of dawn breaking emphasises the beginning of a new era: the arrival of the flowery May.
