About The Book

This book is a compilation of sales of private property advertised by the Sheriff of the District in local newspapers; for example Lancaster Ledger or the Edgefield Advertiser. In the sheriff’s newspaper advertisement information usually included the type of property offered 1000 acres of land or a bay horse for example and the names of the plaintiff defendant names of individuals whose land adjoins the defendants and Sheriff of the District. Information such as the amount of the judgment and the cost of the sale would be filed later. There are over 400 names indexed in this compilation from the period 1836 - 1839.
