The title of the novel uses classical poetic imagery (such as Li Qingzhao's Cutting Plum Blossoms with the line Yan Zi Hui Shi Moon Full of West Tower) and through the migration metaphor of North geese flying south it portrays the spiritual dilemma and patriotism of Chinese intellectuals under the shadow of war.</p><p>《北雁南飞》是张恨水于1939年创作的长篇小说，以抗战初期为背景，讲述北平沦陷后一群知识分子南迁的漂泊历程。小说标题化用古典诗词意象（如李清照《一剪梅》雁字回时，月满西楼），通过北雁南飞的迁徙隐喻，展现战争阴影下中国知识分子的精神困境与家国情怀。</p><p></p><p>The story of North Wild Goose Flying South tells the tale of a young man and woman who rebelled against feudalism during the transitional period but the rebellion was not thorough enough. Li Xiaoqiu the son of the county magistrate of Qingjiang County was sent to a private school in the countryside. He fell in love at first sight with his husband's daughter Chunhua but unfortunately Chunhua had already been betrothed to someone else. Both of them intended to be together but in the end they could not resist the oppression of feudal forces and broke up in pain each with their own destiny. Years later Chunhua who had already given birth to two sons reunited with Xiaoqiu who had become the commander of the revolutionary army at her maternal home. Things had changed and even the tide of reform and equality could no longer liberate the long gone years. Chunhua had mixed feelings but could only watch helplessly as the geese flew north and south</p><p>《北雁南飞》讲述了过渡时代一对青年男女反封建的故事，但是封建反得并不彻底。清江县县丞之子李小秋被送到乡下读私塾，对先生之女春华一见钟情，无奈春华早已许配他人，两人都有意在一起，最终却抵抗不住封建势力的压迫，最终痛苦分手各安天命。多年后，已育两子的春华在娘家重遇已为革命军团长的小秋，已是物是人非，即便是改革平等的大潮也已经解放不了早已流逝的岁月，春华百感交集，却只能呆望北雁南飞，无能为力......</p>
