The paper deals with the biological diversity harboured in the Brazilian Amazon Forest and the importance of this resource for the balance and stability of ecosystems as well as for obtaining economic advantages among other benefits. However contrary to the protection that should be given to Amazonian biodiversity the development of the region has been implemented in a predatory manner through the adoption of unsustainable deforestation practices. Deforestation constitutes a prerequisite for the exercise of the right of interference on national soil by the international community in contrast to the principle of sovereignty with a view to the defence of that ecosystem. Thus the objective of the study is to identify sustainable forms of development for the Brazilian Amazon which requires the involvement of public authorities and civil society with the environmental cause.
