Population aging is a term for shifts in the age structure of a population toward older ages caused by longer life expectancy and declining fertility rates. Knowledge of a population’s age profile is essential because it is a major determinant of service requirements labour supply consumer demand and potential for future natural increases development planning as well as evaluation of the quality of census enumeration among others.
