It was one of the few offensive wars in which Russia had a unifying purpose. In this case Russia was fighting to secure the rights of Armenians and Christians in the Muslim Ottoman Empire who were victims of racist or religion based atrocities. There were several major battles in the war but it was a fairly swift victory for Russia.</p>
