Speech Of Hon. John L. Dawson Of Penn'A

About The Book

Excerpt from Speech of Hon. John L. Dawson of Pennsylvania on the Homestead Bill: Delivered in the House of Representatives on Tuesday February 14 1854. Gen. Jackson in his annual message to Congress in 1832 stated: It cannot be doubted that the speedy settlement of these lands constitute the true inter ests of the republic. The wealth and strength of a country are its population; and the best part of the population are the cultivators of the soil. Independent farmers are everywhere the basis of society and true friends of liberty. It seems to me to be our true policy that the public lands shall cease as soon as practicable to be a source of revenue.. About the Publisher.
