Spontaneous Abortion

About The Book

In this paper I analyse spontaneous abortion based on psychoanalytic authors who have dedicated themselves to the subject. I start from the premise that it is the result of an unconscious desire to deny pregnancy materialised in the form of an interference with the woman''s body. This abortion takes place in individual histories and can only be understood in this way. Experiencing it creates suffering because the interruption of pregnancy is felt as a castration of the creative capacity and continuity of existence which would be possible through a child. Therefore it is of fundamental importance to offer prophylactic work in health services which allows women and families to express their feelings contributing to the elaboration of a mourning for spontaneous abortion.
