Sports Dentistry

(According to Academy of Sports Dentistry (2012) Sports Dentistry is referred as the branch of sports medicine that deals with the prevention and treatment of dental injuries and related oral diseases associated with sports and exercise.During sports related activities leads to various traumatic dental injuries including luxation intrusion extrusion and avulsion of tooth fracture of the facial bones injuries to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the most fatal concussion. Hence a dentist plays an important role by providing the players with a thorough check up of the oral cavity in case of poor dental health which can limit an athlete’s ability to train and compete at their very best and also helps to educate patients and parents in order to prevent traumatic dental injuries.
