In Brazil there are one million cases of burns every year 200000 of which are treated in emergency services and 40000 of which require hospitalization. Burns are among the main external causes of death recorded second only to other violent causes which include transportation accidents and homicides. In view of these facts this study aims to describe how primary care should be provided to workers with severe burns in industries and plants using articles and protocols on care provided to burn victims. A thorough bibliographical review on the subject including a brief explanation of the pathophysiology of burns metabolic circulatory hormonal and immunological alterations calculations of the surface area of the burn types or etiology of burns nutritional status initial care volume replacement and the essential care that the nursing team provides in these circumstances.
