In 1871 journalist Henry Morton Stanley begins his famous search through Africa for the missing British explorer Dr. David Livingstone. Stanley in Africa is an extremely detailed account of Stanleys explorations in the mysterious continent. Of course the book includes the time when he met David Livingstone and uttered those immortal words: Dr. Livingstone I presume?. . In the late 19th century Europeans and Americans were deeply fascinated by the “Dark Continent” of Africa and its many mysteries. Hence Stanley in Africa originally published in 1889 by James P. Boyd became an instant success.
