Static foot disorders and low back pain

Introduction: The aim of our work was to evaluate the association between foot statics disorders and common low back pain. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study including patients with a static foot disorder. The population was divided into two groups: study group (with common low back pain) and control group (without common low back pain). Results: Forty patients were enrolled. A flat foot was present in 65% of the study group and 70% of the control group. Hollow foot was noted in 35% and 30% of the study and control groups respectively. Hindfoot valgus and varus were present in 25% and 15% of the study group and 20% and 10% of the control group respectively. In the analytical study there was a significant association between foot statics disorders and low back pain: talalgia (p= 0.03) hyperkeratosis (p= 0.05) foot deformities (p= 0.03) flat foot (p=0.01) hollow foot (p= 0.01) hindfoot valgus (p= 0.001) and hindfoot varus (p= 0.001).Conclusion: Our study suggests the role of foot statics disorders as a risk factor for common low back pain.
