Fish species in Lake Albert which crosses three(3) territories in Ituri province in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo have declined significantly from 54 to 14 at present. Once ranked as one of the world's most fish-rich lakes with 54 species of fish the failure to respect and enforce fishing legislation and the violation of environmental laws have meant that Lake Albert currently has only fourteen(14) species of fish in its part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
