<p>This book tells the tragic life story of Zeng Bojian a college student during the Republic of China era. Press-ganged into military service in a city torn by warlords' conflicts he unexpectedly became a secretary for a division commander. Within the warlord forces he witnessed their atrocities: murder robbery and the rape of women. Until the Japanese army invaded the city he escaped this den of demons only to face accusations of treason.
