Storytelling in the Third Age

About The Book

This work sought to investigate the benefits of storytelling for senior citizens. It refers to a project by senior citizens who get together to tell stories to children in care homes and schools. The project aims to bring generations closer together and to revive the social identity of the elderly. The main objective of the observation was to analyse the social context of the elderly and how storytelling actions generate quality of life and promote social value. This is a qualitative case study developed through observations and the application of a questionnaire. Through the data collected we observed that the moments of participation in the project became an indispensable commitment in their lives. Together they have created a social network that delights everyone they meet. They have found a way to make their own fulfilment an object of joy and enchantment for many people. Working with the 'Mundo de Magia' Storytellers shows us that it is possible to re-signify the social condition of the elderly leading us to consider that society needs to broaden its view of them.
