To accomplish Sustainable Development Goals like reducing maternal mortality and newborn deaths; there should be social institutions which have to be led by strategic leaders - strategic leadership in practice. A leader is thus a credible person who can alter one''s thoughts feelings or actions in a manner that enlists others to pursue the accomplishment of common goal(s). Leadership is therefore the process of social influence in which a leader can solicit the others'' aid and the support in pursuing the accomplishment of targeted goals. Consequently the leader is the person that practises this social influence which may further occur when this person''s thoughts feelings or actions are being affected other people in the social institutions like hospitals. Succinctly the leader must adopt behaviours which may affect his/her followers'' thoughts feelings or actions and these parameters must also be affected in a manner that will contribute towards those goals. That is where the art of strategic leadership and leader in social institutions takes on all its meaning - strategic leadership of social institutions like hospitals to achieve the Third Sustainable Development Goal.
