Strength of Materials

Ever since his student days at IIT Madras and during his 43 years of his professional career that spanned Engineering Consulting and Industry Research and Teaching the author has been intensely involved with the subjects Strength of Materials Design and Analysis of Mechanical components and Systems and Vibrations. Inspired with a passion for these subjects the author felt the need to establish a close link between‘Strength of Materials’ and ‘Design Engineering’ and that ‘Strength of Materials’ as a subject needs tohave a ‘Mechanical Engineering’ orientation when the subject has been conventionally dealt under CivilEngineering. Through his book the author was keen to clearly and coherently impart the ‘fundamentals’of Strength of Materials to the readers. This book is intended to benefit different segments of target audience—right from under-graduateand post-graduate students and teachers of Mechanical Engineering in Universities and EngineeringColleges across India practicing professionals Design Engineers and Engineering Consultants workingin Industries and Consulting organizations.
