About The Book

Stroke is an event threatening the life and the physical and/or psychological integrity of the subject who is exposed to it. There are many psychiatric manifestations secondary to strokes. Among these manifestations post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most common neuropsychiatric manifestations. The objectives of this work were to estimate the prevalence of post-stroke PTSD in elderly subjects and to research the factors that are correlated to it. Our study was cross-sectional descriptive and analytical. The average age of our sample was 75.2 years with a standard deviation of 7.9 and extremes of 65 and 95 years with a sex ratio (M/F) of 0.89. The prevalence of post-stroke depression was 41.8 % the prevalence of PTSD was 27.3%. The mechanisms of post-stroke depression and PTSD are rich and make the study of the psychiatric impact of stroke a privileged meeting place for the sciences of the mind.
