This article has examined the multifaceted nature of academic malpractices in Indian engineering colleges highlighting both student and teacher-related unethical behaviours. It has explored the root causes-ranging from societal pressure flawed education systems inadequate faculty training to the commercialization of education-and the wide-reaching impacts these malpractices have on students' learning institutional credibility and the country's technical manpower.This article outlined a wide range of preventive and corrective measures. These include:- Strengthening examination systems through technology and strict supervision - Promoting transparency and impartiality in grading - Raising awareness about academic integrity among both students and teachers- Introducing institutional policies like anonymous evaluation ethics committees and peer-reviewed assessments- Encouraging support systems for stressed or struggling students- Fostering an educational culture that values honesty and meritocracy.
