STUDY OF CORROSION PHENOMENA RELATED TO THE DETERIORATION OF STEELS

About The Book

The aim of this work is to study the behaviour of galvanized steel and its resistance to corrosion and degradation. The investigations by the method of mechanical and electrochemical techniques allowed us to follow the behavior of galvanized steel in two different situations. The results obtained showed that sodium chloride at 3% was more reactive to corrosion than protection by zinc alone. On the other hand fresh water has no effect on galvanized steel due to the passivation of the galvanized layer with respect to the substrate (bare steel). It is concluded that zinc protection is favourable for pipes carrying fresh water and specific protection for corrosion in active media.
