About The Book

Wood fuels are the main sources of energy for the people of Burkina Faso. Firewood is used by the majority of the population in rural areas. In Bama the population has multiple energy sources with a variety of cooking stoves. In this regard this paper by determining the traditional practices of domestic energy use and describing the conditions for the introduction of improved stoves in Bama seeks to identify the socio-economic constraints related to the introduction of improved stoves in rural areas. Using a mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) the study first determined the daily use of traditional stoves due to the cultural values surrounding these stoves. Secondly the results show that improved cookstove extension approaches do not reach the majority of the population (57% of respondents). Only 22 respondents have at least one improved stove.
