STUDY OF THE DOSAGE OF POROUS FRICTION LAYERS

About The Book

In Brazil road transport is the main means of transportation and the vast majority of roads are paved with asphalt concrete as a surfacing layer. The Porous Friction Layer (PFL) is characterized by having an open grain size with a small amount of fines and a high percentage of void volume. This study characterized granite aggregates and AMP 55/75 asphalt binders and verified the suitability of these constituents for producing PFA. The methodological stages of the research corresponded to the physical characterization of the aggregates; rheological characterization of the binder; and asphalt dosage analysis using volumetric parameters and tensile strength. The data from this study proved to be consistent with the standards adopted in terms of characterizing the aggregates and obtaining the volumes of voids slump and run-off. The values obtained for tensile strength did not meet the established standard. One suggestion is to carry out a microstructural analysis of the materials used.
