Weed competition is one of the most important factor limiting garlic production in Nigeria. Garlic competes very poorly with weeds due to its slow growth rate small stature shallow roots and thin canopy. In addition its slender upright leaves do not shade the ground enough to suppress weeds. No one method of weed control can adequately meet the needs of any crop all the time.
